More Oliver Sacks Goodness!

“It takes a special energy, over and above one’s creative potential, a special audacity or subversiveness, to strike out in a new direction.”

This is a journal entry meant as a reminder to me. It is a reminder to me how I want to operate and some tips put together in a moment of clarity to help when I am less clear and caught up in stuff the I can’t control.  Continue the conversation anytime: will@kestrelcreek.com.

Not all feelings need to be paid attention to...

Don’t waste time with feelings that are not helpful to leading a flourishing life. Similarly not all thoughts are worth following.

I’ve been thinking about my reading habits and how they can be improved for better recall and integration of the ideas encountered. To that end I’ve been looking into the science and philosophy of note-taking. The science and philosophy are young and obscure. A lot is happening in Germany. Glimpses here and there.

  • 'How to Take Smart Notes’ by Sönke Ahrens - the book that start me on the path

  • Niklas Luhmann the godfather of Zettelkasten

  • Hugh Prather - Zen practitioner and avid note taker

  • Christian and Sascha at https://zettelkasten.de/

  • Joan Dillon - inspiring with her note taking

  • Oliver Sacks - a hero - this photo shows how important notes where to Oliver. I aspire to be able to just stop when an idea is manifest and have the wherewithal to make a note.

Meeting Life with Gratefulness ...

"I am grateful for this precious life."

"I am grateful for this old and beautiful earth."

"I am grateful for the gift of friendship."

"I am grateful that I have the heart to serve."

"I am grateful for the silence and stillness that join us."

"I am grateful for those hard lessons learned."

"I am grateful for every given day."

"I am grateful for you."

Don’t compare …

yourself with other people, compare yourself with who you were yesterday.

These are my morning meditation. Reminders for me. They may speak to you or not. I’m interested in what your thinking. Continue the conversation anytime: will@kestrelcreek.com.

Communication …

isn’t only about finding the right words. It’s about finding the right reason to say them. Or not to say them. Sometimes the confusion is just to great. We are confused about just how confused we are. Small glimpses through our confusion is a start and may be all we get. Use these moments to share life.

Life comes in clusters…

Busy clusters, lonely clusters, cluster when there is not time enough to breath.

A frog is an excellent …

meditation practitioner: sits for hours and hours on end, but when a fly comes near, it immediately catches it. So, sit like a frog!
