Walking a path

July 21, 2021 Will Simpson

Sauntering is deeply ingrained in humans.

Nature is a path-less world full of tough teachers. One moment you are looking for something to eat, the next you realize "your ass could be someone else's meal".

The metaphor of a path and is as old as the hills. It’s the mode of transportation humans have been using the most. Paths take you somewhere. They are linear and synchronous in how they unfold. But what is the opposite of a path? Going nowhere particular? Path-less? No-path? Off-trail? What is off-trail is everything but the path. Hunters, herders, foragers find what they are looking for off-trail, not on it.
