Credits
This web site is product of the work of many people. While ultimately
I, Will Simpson am responsible for the design and coding of this site
I can not
take full credit
for its success. Below are the names of the people who have helped me and
also a listing of the tools used for this sites creation. I guess I really
a tool
guy at heart and I view my web site development tools much like I view my
woodworking tools. |
Photography
- Pekka Saarinen - Exhibition Engine - www.photography-on-the.net
Pekka is based in Finland and has developed a fantastic tool for displaying
photographs. Freeware PHP/MySQL code for building a professional
online photo gallery system on Apache server. I have adapted it for
our exhibitions. This is a very sophisticated tool with tons of features
and the flexability to be
used in a varity of applications. I highly recommend this tool if
your web host can support it.
- Canon G2 - www.dpreview.com/reviews/canong2/
This is the digital camera that I use. Most of the images shot of the
turnings were shot with a non-digital 35mm Canon EOS 10s camera on
Kodak EPY 64T film then scanned with a HP slide scaner.
- Photoshop - www.adobe.com
If you are into digital photography, this is the tool to have. Some
other products imatate and others come close but all others fall
short.
- DP Review - www.dpreview.com
My favorite digital product review site. A great place to start researching
any digital product purchase. The forums connect you with other digital
photographers. Up to the minute industry news. This site has a world-wide
focus but is in english.
- Photoflex Lights - www.photoflex.com
I have used a varity of lighting technigues. One of our favorites is
to use a tabletop white box with a overhead "Silverdome" hot light.

Web site development
- Dreamweaver - www.macromedia.com
This application is the tool I use for design and coding of this site.
It is a very cool tool. It allows for both text editing and graphical
editing of the pages at kestrelcreek.com. It supports php coding
and had tools for connecting to MySQL databases.
- php - www.php.net
This is a server-side programing language that allows me to do several
cool things. It frees me from having to worry (too much) about all
the different browsers on the market. It is embedded into the HTML
of
each page
and the
webserver itself processes the code before sending the HTML to your
browser rather than depend on your browser to process the code. Most
pages at kestrelcreek.com are created dynamicly when you requiest
them.
- My SQL - www.mysql.org
This is the database software that is used to store all the information
on kestrelcreek.com. It is an open source application supported but
thousands of developers and is free to non-profits. Unbenonist to
you, this is really the engine that drives kestrelcreek.com.
- Site Point - www.sitepoint.com
This site is devoted to educating web site developers and has a wealth
of articles and tutorials on all the stuff of advanced wed design and
web application programming. I visit this site almost daily for news,
tips and reference. This site originates in Canada and Australia.
