Detail from "Still Life 1" by Elsa Rady

I took the inspiration for this piece from a ceramicist - Elsa Rady. Her forms, pictured on the left, remind me of elegant bullet like shapes. There is something quite powerful about the grouping. They could be interpreted as representing a human family. This grouping is reminds me of some of the work from Dennis Ellsworth's Man and Forest Architecture Series. This grouping could have been be called "Man, Woman and Child"..

These are notes that I took during the process of building and turning this piece. Some of these are a little difficult to read or understand especially if you haven't done any segmented turning. These came directly off of my working shop drawings. My notes show (far right bottom) that I spent 47 hours creating this piece with most of that being glue up.

Here is the final product. Segmented Series #4. As you can see I modified the top a little. While constructing this piece, I noticed that the top opening would be too small for my hollowing tool if I continued the original curve. I turned the curve, slightly back upwards and got myself out of a sticky design jam.
