INTRODUCTION

Sanding, you either hate it or you tolerate it – usually we mostly hate it. One recent development in sanding is power sanding and there are many implementations of this. The implementation I’m going to discuss here is the hook and loop disk on a power drill method.

The thrust of this article is about how to save money by making your own disks for as little as five cents each when compared to 22¢ – 36¢ each elsewhere. This is based on 2" disks using Klingspor’s "Stearate Kling-on Rolls". The photos here show me using this same sanding product in a 6" disk format that is slightly more expensive. (I just didn’t notice the cheaper product when I ordered and likely someone will point out an even cheaper product from somewhere else.) I prefer to use stearate sanding products because they work well with the types of woods I normally turn. Your mileage may vary! Next are a series of pictures that show the process of making and using the punch.

As is often told – "A picture is worth a thousand word."
