This is the best site on the web for woodturning.  Your link site are very useful.  I especially like Kevin's Woodturning on segmented turning. Everyday I go by your site.
Thanks,

Art - Pomona, N.Y.

I think it is wonderful that all woodturners are willing to share their ideas and talents with others. You
surely do fit this to a "T". Thanks for all the great information and inspiration.

George - Knoxville TN.

Thank you! The best site, bar none. But for the urge your site created in me to get back to my shop as quickly as possible, I could have spent all day enjoying everything that you are sharing.
Jack  - Placervile, CA

Two woodturners in this household and we enjoy this web very much, also helps that it is located in IDAHO.

Bob  -  Nampa, ID.

Best woodturning site on the net.  You have it all.  I'll be back again and again to see what is new.  Thanks and keep it up.

Ron Gerton

I'm very impressed with the work I see on your net page. Also the other items, reviews etc. are well worth reading and the item on a fluting jig is marvelous!  Nice to see so many different styles of vessels being turned, decorated and carved. So many trees and so little time!

Doug - Coquitlam, B.C

Am an aspiring woodturner/artist. Attended the Utah W. T. symposium last yr. Learned a great deal as well as from wonderful sites such as yours.

Thanks,
Larry  -  Dolores, CO. USA

This site contains some very nice work. My favourite is the work featuring fossils. I call them dinosaur eggs.

Chris Green  -  Savona, B.C.

Wow...what a wonderful site...how fortunate I am to have stumbled upon it. As a beginning woodturner, I'm looking forward to spending a lot of time here learning and being inspired.  Thanks for taking the time to make it something truly unique and special among all the woodturning sites out there.

Dick - Wilmette (Chicago area), IL

I have never seen such a complete site for those of us us who are interested in woodturning. Great!!!

Åsmund - Stavanger, Norway

Your site was a late night surprise.  I'm not an fellow artist in wood.  I was trying to locate a source for making walking canes.  Having tried every key word under the sun, I just typed in "wood" something or other, and your site crossed my sight at about 11 pm.

I am so glad.  The artistry took my breath away, made me smile, and elicited Ooohhhhs and Aaaaahhhhs.  Nice to know that such talented artists are out there creating.  Thank you.

Lyn - Coventry, RI

I enjoy anything that has to do with art works, so this page is great!  It's worth checking all of it.  Any way, I don't know if Ben remembers me, but I studied with him in elementary with Mrs. Kenyon... And I'm checking this from Venezuela. I'm impressed with you work, I mean, it's great, I don't see that kind of work around here, so.

Yudith - Caracas Venezuela.

Really enjoyed your entries in the gallery at AAW. Had hoped to meet you, however, the crowd was large. Thanks for the continuing inspiration via your web site.

Jim  - Atlanta, GA

I really enjoyed your website. This was my first time to visit it and it was great. I am a beginner woodturner myself. Keep up the good work.
Thanks,
Preston - Texarkana, AR

As always  a super site and great turnings... I come back often to see and get inspired to go do more turning. Working on carving a turning... keep up the great site and keep turning.

Ed - Ocean Springs Ms

A brilliant website. List of woods is very useful but would be even better if the wood's weight per cubic foot was included as well as Latin names I am a 15 year old woodturner and agree with your feature.  I also had an experienced mentor who allowed me to use his shop.

Nick - UK

Very inspirational.  Photo gallery raises the bar for most of us.  A site well worth visiting often.

Bill - Massena, N.Y.

Excellent site, very informative, keep up the good work.

Giulian - D.D.O. Qc., Canada

As a potter, I'm always interested in how objects occupy their space. Everything about kestrelcreek.com occupies it's space well; the turned wood pieces in a literal sense, and the entire site in a "virtual" sense. Well done.

Tom - Seagrove, NC  -  Potter (space filler upper), for 25 years.

Just wanted to say thanks for being so open about your ideas.  What a great idea, and how refreshing to see someone happy to just share what they know/do. I don't do much in the hollow forms way myself being more interested in spindle turning and chairs but I am very impressed with the open approach you have shown!
Good luck with it.
Dave

Great site. Sorry it took me so long to find it. You're doing a great service to new turners like me who enjoy both the craft and art of turning.

Allan Glass

Excellent information and effort. Keep up the good work.

George, Australia

Delighted to find your site and to read about you, having experienced a similar introduction and exploration of woodturning over fifty years ago. Different story to-day: The Ulster Chapter of the Irish Woodturners Guild has about one hundred and forty members and expert instruction is available all the time. I look forward to exploring your gallery at the first opportunity.

With best wishes from Gilbert, Limavady, Northern Ireland

Hi from New Zealand - the home of Nova Lathes, chucks etc. made by Teknatool NZ. Let me introduce myself. My name is Rick Taylor, professional woodturner and woodturning demonstrator. I have been woodturning for the last 26years - working on the lathe almost every day. I now own my own Gallery/working Studio on the Kauri Coast in Northland New Zealand. We sell turned items made by myself at the Studio as well as lathes, turning accessories and we also offer one to one woodturning tuition to beginners, intermediate and advanced turners.

Dear Jim -Re your page on the new Nova Mercury Mini Lathe. I would like to say that I agree with all you are saying. I to have a Mercury lathe that we added to our workshop two weeks ago. This will be used for producing small turned items and I feel anyone who owns one of these lathe should not expect it to do what it's big brothers do. We will be using the lathe for little apples, pears, candle holders and miniature bowls made from ancient kauri wood - some of which has been carbon dated at 30850 years old! We place the small items in paper boxes made from Manchurian Rice Grass that grows along the river just across the road from our Studio/Gallery. We may start and make pens. I feel that this is what this lathe was made for. I have had a lot to do with Nova lathes, chucks etc. made by Teknatool NZ and I have owned the first lathe they produced, the TL 1000 and also the TL 1500 and the TL 3000 which is their latest big lathe. I demonstrated on the TL3000 in Canada at Surrey Wood show a few years ago when it first came on the market. I would say this lathe is for turners who wish to do larger works. I also use the Teknatool Nova Chuck and now have five of them in the workshop with different jaws on each one. I do like using Teknatool products. They are very well made and at the best price around.

Bill Johnston artist in Residence - I find him to be a fine Artist and his work of a very high standard, nice balance and flowing curves. Great pieces  of Art (slide show). Great show and I like the work, it looks like high standard of craftsmanship.

Ben Carpenter- from Rick Taylor NZ - great works of Art - you are a man after my own heart. I love making hollow and burl free-form pieces and have done so for many years. I like your flowing curves and the colours and grains you use and of course you are a great craftsman! Keep up the good work. I should have started woodturning at 14 instead of at 25years of age but I have been turning now for 26years and enjoy every minute on the lathe.

Happy turnings!
Rick - The Woodturners Studio, Dargaville New Zealand.

Congratulations Ben!  I was impressed when I met you in Tacoma and am even more impressed while viewing your work.  I am excited for you and look forward to following your success as you move forward in the coming years.
What a great team!

Bernie,  Serious Lathe Co.

What a lovely philosophy.
Thank you.

Laurie, Colchester England.

What a fantastic site. The sophistication of the turnings you are all producing is awe inspiring.

Ron - Bishop, Califorina

Found your site while agonizing over which chuck to buy and was very close to brain burn-out.  After a long walk through your site and "inspirational links" my mind snapped back in place and I was able to make a decision that I'm happy with (at least for now - the chuck is ordered but hasn't arrived).  Thanks!

Larry L.

Thank you for such a well balanced and fair review, I think you have caught the essence of what we were trying to achieve with the machine. We will certainly be continuing to improve the machine and you are right, even though the lathe is a true mini the machine itself is so capable of larger work that a 1/2 Hp version will be introduced over this year, the motor will fit the current 1/4 HP Mercuries so is fully upgradeable.

Roger - Teknatool Manufacturing - New Zealand

I stumbled upon your site through your wood identification page, and after reading through all pages have to thank you for your masterpiece. Likewise, the creations produced by your artists are incredible masterpieces that show the beauty of wood and demonstrate your philosophy. The only suggestion that I could make is to change the designation of "Mission Statement" to "philosophy" or some other description.  The over-used "mission statement" phrase belongs to more to corporate "Amerika" than to a site advocating an expression of spiritual potential of art and wood. Thank you again.

Hi Guys I looked here when I first learned of the site and saw much.  Now I am returning to figure out just what I have seen and how to use yours to improve mine. Thanks

Steve S  -  Spokane Washington

Beautiful work!!! Keep it up.

 Mike  -   Utah

Beautiful work---from delicate to strong. Some pieces I personally don't like very much but the workmanship is superb. I but wish I could handle the tools & had the imagination to do this type of work.

Luther  -   E. Liverpool, Ohio

Your site always blows my mind,  what an inspiration !

Harold -  Nanaimo BC.  Canada

A few weeks ago I was at a show in Barbervill FL and met a gentleman who was demonstrating the art of making buckets from wood the same way I suspect that it was done a hundred years ago. Anyway in the course of our discussion he told me that his instructor told him to always try to MAKE THE TREE PROUD in looking at your work I think you made the tree proud

Best web site yet. Keep up the good work and don't stop sending me the news letter as I look forward to it. I AM AN "OLD WOOD TURNER" (81 years old) and have been turning for about 20 years and have enjoyed every day that I have spent at my lathe. Now since computers have entered our lives and I have logged on to sites and wood turners life is even more enjoyable. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK AND THANKS FOR LISTENING TO ME.

 George - Billings, Montana

I've been watching your website for a while now.  All of you - your work
is just getting better all the time.  I really enjoy coming to your site
to see what new gems you have developed.

Niel - Canada

After review of posted comments, little I can say that has not already been said.  Your site has been added to the favorites list and will be visited accordingly.  Will recommend your site to the computer owners in the South Kansas Woodturner's group, a local chapter of AAW. Thanks much for the articles posted for all to review.  Got here from rec.crafts.woodturning chat line.  Keep up to good work & thanks,

Royce, Wichita, Kansas--Air capital of the world.

Great Website!!  A full time woodturner myself but never too confident to learn new tricks.
Keep up the good work.

Tim - Hillsburgh Ontario Canada

I also am pretty new to woodturning.  I learned about your site from Lyle Jamieson that told me about the boring bar extension story on this site.  Very, very helpful article.  You surely have one of the best woodturning site I have seen on the net.  Keep up the good work.

Rusty - Tye, Texas

I am brand new to woodturning.. This is a great site...  Made me even more exciting about the wonderful world of woodturning....

Roger  -  Pinson, Alabama

I am new to woodturning and this site is the best I have seen yet, and I spent over one year researching before entering into this fantastic hobby. I only wish that in time I will create beautiful pieces like you have here. This is really an inspiration to see and admire. thank you for sharing this with the world.

Gordon - Columbia, Connecticut

I just want to comment on the Central Project Critique.  I am really enjoying that, and appreciate the effort you have made to create that forum on your website.

It is really awesome to realize that individuals from Canada, California, Florida, Wisconsin, Louisiana, Pennsylvania, Virginia and even Ireland are all viewing the same piece of art in Idaho from the comfort of their own home.  Then on top of that they can comment and "hear" the comments of all the others from all over the world.  Art and artists never had it so good, and neither did art lovers.

Your links page is wonderful.  Thank you so much.  For a novice like myself, it is great to be able to look at other's work so conveniently and quickly.  I still haven't gone through all of the sites.  You have the best links page I have found anywhere, especially for woodturners.

Thanks again.  Keep up the good work.  It really is a tremendous contribution to the world of woodturning!

Danny - Natchitoches, LA

Excellent site.  Really enjoyed- and can use - the tips.  Whenever I see pictures in a shop I always look behind to see how the shop is set up - Would like some tips along this theme.

Jim - Penn Yan, New York

We are putting together a woodshop here at our monastery on Kauai, and your assistance in the area of lathes is very helpful. We enjoyed visiting your website and admiring the beautiful pieces you and your associates have created. Quite inspiring. We have a couple of young monks who are looking forward to being able to turn bowls and other items.

Ben-friend, this is my first ever sortie into the net, wowo, and you are the first recipient. Your website and your wares are fantastic, hooray for you and the web.

Nana Frances

Your site is an absolute delight, I'm building my own site so I can appreciate how much time has gone into  this awesome site, congratulations!!. Thanks for the link to my site too, (that's how I found you). All the best for the future, I believe that this is one of the best woodturning site on the web.

Regards Graeme - Fyshwick Act Australia

Congrats on the website and the displays of work, here!  These are lovely pieces of art!  I especially like the carved root vessels; exquisite shapes and detail; they look quite alive. Hope you folks find the market side, and get your asking prices.  And more market awareness of your work. The slide show is very clever, well done.  The enlarged photos, though, could be a little larger, esp. on your detailed pieces; they only take a small portion of the monitor. If I were a turner/artist, I'd be strongly attracted to post my work here, and aid in your virtual marketing.  This is definitely the wave of the future - connecting great wood artists directly with purchasing aficionados. I suggest a members-only section, for turners to share ideas and knowledge.  And more indexing and spider work on websites - Yahoo, Excite, Google and dozens more.  Otherwise, people won't find you among the thousands of new websites every day!

Finally, thanks for the clear privacy statement; a breath of fresh air!

Stew - Manzanita, Oregon

Excellent website. Lots of good designs. Only other comment is a personal preference. I do not like to create wood turnings and dye or stain them "un-natural" colors. Keep up the good work

Ken  -  Altadena California

The quality and clarity of your site is only exceeded by the caliber of your work. The AAW could learn from viewing this site.  You, Jim, and Ben are true artists and invoke my deepest admiration, with a side dish of envy at your creative skills.  Hope to see you at the next meeting at Ferris.

Cheers, Tom  -  Spokane Washington

Following your request on the Alta-Vista NG I simply had to have a look and am impressed by the quality of the work.  Although we the surfers are often looking for inspiration for our own work when we see the beautiful work on this site it does make one wonder if it is worthwhile us newcomers continuing!  It is a shame that we are so often secretive because I for one would love to know how some of the excellent results were achieved not knowing where to start!  Thanks for the feed back on sanding discs, another alternative could be purchasing the pre-glued Velcro backing and attaching it to a roll of abrasive.

Regards Peter  -  Isle of Wight, United Kingdom

I just discovered your site and I am very impressed. I have just spent an hour browsing and have only scratched the surface of what you have on offer. I am a full time turner based on the south coast of
Ireland. Your site will be of great help in keeping up with developments in woodturning.
Thanks again for your site,

John  -  Ireland

Gentlemen, just received your absolutely fabulous newsletter/website
page. I am totally impressed with the scope and quality of work
exhibited!!!> Fantastic job. I have a question that's been bugging me
for the last year or two. My hobby is turning segmented bowls and I have
turned enough of them to be fairly familiar with the segmenting process
and the dynamics of the geometry involved. BUT... I'm eager to try a
piece with open segments in it. and can't figure out how to start it.
PS> I'm president of our local group, the Western New York Woodturners:
We have about 80 members, none of whom are professional turners, but we
sure do have fun at our meetings! I'll be glad to include your website in our
next newsletter...I'm sure it will inspire our guys ( and girls) to new
heights in turning!!  Keep turnin' !!

Jim  -  Western New York

You people have a great page, I come here often, It's good to look at other
peoples ideas.

When Life Throws You A Stump, Turn It!

A great site reflecting your dedication to the art of woodturning.
I now have it bookmarked and plan to return to check out all the
great links you have made available.  I have a feeling I can definitely
find some inspiration for future projects at this site.

Jerry   -   Colorado

Great site guys!! Thanks for showing the hollow form system with your extension to the short bed lathe

Lyle  -  Traverse City, Michigan

Ya'all have created an awesome website.  Very well organized.
The turnings are really an inspiration.  Mr. Simpson, your lathe bench is the best
design that I have seen.  Thanks for sharing all ya'alls (that's plural) expertise
and talent with the rest of us.

Danny - Natchitoches, LA

I don't know weather to poke you with a pointy stick or thank you. I've had more than an hour going thru the links and I'm no where near done yet. So much wonderful information. Have to make myself stop. Thanks much.

Susan  -  Mountains of  Tennessee

Very beautiful work. My lathe work is limited because of other pressing duties but this may take me back to the days I was active.
Thanks to all 3 of you & good turning.

Luther  - E. Liverpool , Ohio

This a lovely site which is now added to my personal links for regular visits
Alan,

Weymouth, Dorset, England

Bookmarked your outstanding web page to my growing list after reading the
article in Woodshop News. Will pass this on to others. Thanks for the inspiration.

Jim Hutchinson

Beautiful website.  I am adding Kestrelcreek to my Links page.
I found this site by backtracking through my Stats page.
Thanks for listing my website.
Marc - Layton, UT

Beautiful work and a very well organized and designed web site.  I am very impressed by both the outstanding technical expertise of the three artists but also by the range in design of work you all do.

I suppose I must admit that I am most impressed by the skill and young age of Mr. Carpenter.  To be this accomplished at 17 is amazing!

I must also admit to feeling a little humbled when I compare my own work...  Oh well, without people like you what would inspire me to do better?

Best of luck to all of you in your lives and in your work.

John  - Cincinnati, OH

Beautiful turnings, you are all very talented. The photos by Will are very professional looking. As an artist/craftperson, as well as avid collector of fine American craft, I am interested in Will's technique. What type digital camera? Lighting? Backdrop?  I read about you three in the Spokesman Review a month or so ago. Someday I would love to see your turnings in the flesh. Will any of you be showing at any of the numerous Art/Craft Festivals or Fairs this summer?
Thanks for sharing your works.

Pat - Sandpoint, Idaho

I stumbled onto your site through a newsgroup by mistake.  What a find!  I
have never turned a bowl ( though I'd like to try someday ), but I have
looked at a lot of them, and your "Alternating swirl" bowls are the most
incredible ones I've ever seen.  How in the world do you do it? Very impressive work!

R.Hays  -  Kansas

We found your site.  It looks great.  When I get rich I will make some orders from it.

Travis  - St. George, UT

Wow!  I took a look at your pages and both the pages themselves and
the subjects are best described as "wow!"

Monica - Idaho

Great job guys.  Congrats and good luck.

Eugene - Spokane, WA

Great site with great turnings
